Gun owners are already required to keep their weapons secure from use by unauthorized persons. Failure to do this makes you party to whatever happens.

In the context of conceal carry, unlicensed individuals are open to be prosecuted. I believe that this is the case for weapons possession in other contexts as well, but I'm not totally sure on that point.

All people looking for a conceal carry license in Kansas must undergo an extensive training course that includes law, safety, and a demonstration that you know how to use your weapon.

Comment on What is heresy? by Mark

My definition of heresy would be something like this:
1. Teaching strange doctrines about the nature of God, Christ, or the Holy Spirit,
2. In a divisive way.

Heresy is when one "draws away disciples" after himself. Having unorthodox thoughts or opinions is not necessarily heresy until one makes those opinions the test of the validity of others' faith.

Heresy goes at the heart of the faith, and does so in a divisive and destructive way. I haven't yet gotten a copy of "Love Wins," but as I understand it, Bell raises questions and makes suggestions--I don't think that reaches the level of heresy, even if one does not like the implications of his questions and suggestions.

You can see I'm behind schedule--about six months late in answering your comment and also in reviewing "Love Wins."

Mark,

There are people out there teaching beginner Greek and Latin classes that way. Some high schools that still teach Latin use the communicative approach. And, as I mentioned in an earlier post, it was once taught that way at the University of Kansas (it was phased out because of perceived problems). And Randal Buth teaches ancient Greek and Hebrew that way, with workshops in Israel and occasionally in California (not sure which of the languages was once spoken there).

I think there is some value in the approach. I just thing there are limitations, and if you want to read sophisticated ancient texts (literature) or texts full of lacunae (inscriptions, papyri, etc.) you still have to have pretty good analytical skills.

I'll check out your website when I have a little free time.
